Jammu, October 10, 2026: Marking World Palliative Care Day, the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu’s Department of Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine hosted an impactful one-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme titled “Pain Management – An Essential Part of Palliative Care.” The event attracted around 130 participants, including senior consultants, postgraduate students, and healthcare professionals, all dedicated to elevating the standard of care for patients with cancer and other critical diseases.
This CME programme aimed to underscore the vital role of effective pain management in enhancing the quality of life for patients grappling with life-threatening conditions. The event served as a vital platform for interdisciplinary collaboration and sharing insights into innovative palliative care practices.
On this occasion, a new palliative care file was launched, which aims to systematically advance palliative care services. This vital initiative highlights the need for organized strategies to cater to patients suffering from cancer and similar serious illnesses.
Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal and Dean of GMC Jammu, guided the event, which was planned by an experienced organizing team comprising Dr. Rajesh Mahajan as Organising Chairperson and several other medical experts in key roles, including Dr. Naine Bhadrala and Dr. Ashwani Kumar.
The scientific schedule featured a range of insightful lectures and dynamic panel discussions focusing on various aspects of pain assessment and management, including the responsible use of opioids and the integration of holistic approaches in palliative care.
